TENNESSEE JUSTICE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS APPLAUDS U.S. SUPREME COURT DECISION UPHOLDING BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP
NASHVILLE, Tennessee, June 30, 2026 — Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors (TNJFON), a non-profit immigration law firm, celebrates today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the long-held interpretation of the 14th Amendment granting citizenship to all born on U.S. soil. The 6-3 ruling rejected President Trump’s executive order challenging the constitutional amendment and seeking to deny the privilege of birthright citizenship to children born to parents who do not have legal status or who are in the country temporarily.
“Today’s decision confirms what we in the practice of immigration law already knew to be true: that the U.S. Constitution was written to protect all individuals in the U.S. and that any action that seeks to limit its powers to only certain groups is both unconstitutional and un-American,” said Tessa Lemos Del Pino, Co-Executive Director at TNJFON.
Like many other immigration law offices, the legal staff at TNJFON had been anxiously anticipating this Supreme Court decision to determine the potential impact it could have on their practice and clients.
“We are worried about the fact that we are even in this situation where the Executive Branch is single-handedly acting to dismantle what few protections exist for those seeking asylum and safety in our country,” Lemos Del Pino said. “While we welcome today’s decision, we are painfully aware that the attempts at delegalization of immigration pathways will continue.”
“Our organization remains committed to advocating for the rights of the immigrant and refugee community, and to representing those who are entitled to humanitarian relief under U.S. law,” concluded Lemos Del Pino.
