Meet Oye Vecino LIVE performer Angie K

We are honored to have Angie K join us as a performer on Thursday, September 22 for Oye Vecino LIVE: Her Story. Tickets are still available for the panel, musical performance, and Patron Party - buy your tickets today to support the mission of Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors!

Born in El Salvador and raised in Georgia, country singer Angie K infuses her bold country tunes with Latin elements. Her international upbringing shapes her approach to country as a universal art form rather than one that only speaks to the American South; on tour in Central America, she sings in Spanish to introduce country music to new audiences across the region.

Angie didn’t pursue music seriously until college, when she dropped out after realizing singing was her true passion. Her full-time job as a musician was singing on a cruise ship. In 2016, Angie competed in season 10 of NBC’s The Voice, where she joined Blake Shelton’s team.

Since then, Angie K has released three albums and had her songs streamed over 40 million times worldwide. In 2019, she was named a recipient of the Country Music Association’s KixStart Artist Scholarship.

It was hard for me to talk about it, I felt like I wasn’t allowed to, because I don’t speak the language perfectly, and I didn’t grow up in my adulthood in El Salvador... It was actually music that brought me back into my love for El Salvador, and being very vocal about it.
